JAPAN (CelebrityAccess) – The new Kyoto Stadium, currently under construction in the city of Kameoka, Japan is set to feature a VR/eSports Centre.

The VR/eSports facility, which will be housed inside the stadium’s ground floor retail space, will give visitors a chance to compete against virtual athletes, stand near the natural pitch and enjoy a VR experience that’ll have them up-close to famous athletes during a game setting, and access VR tourist experiences like journeying through the naturally rich parts of Kyoto such as its forested areas and beautiful oceanic scenes.

According to the Kyoto Prefectural Office, it hopes to partner with a number of prominent Kyoto-based game software developers known for their cutting-edge products, to develop the VR software.

Kyoto Stadium, which will also feature a a Period Drama Museum, is expected to have a capacity of 21,600. The stadium will mainly be used as the new home of the J-League Division 2 side Kyoto Sanga FC, but is also expected to be a new tourist attraction with Kyoto Governor Takatoshi Nishiwaki calling it “a potential gateway to the northern Kyoto tourist destinations”.
