The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation announced on Monday that the organization’s President and CEO Felix Rappaport had unexpectedly passed away. He was 65.

“On behalf of the entire Tribal Council, Foxwoods management team and staff, we extend our deepest sympathies to Felix’s family,” said MPTN Chairman, Rodney Butler. “With his passing, we have suffered a major loss. Felix’s passion for modernizing and growing Foxwoods, as well as his friendship, mentorship and humor touched everyone who worked with him. We are confident that Felix’s legacy will live on as we continue to push forward on the vision he set.”

A cause of death has not yet been determined, a press release said.

Rapport had served as the head of the casino and entertainment complex, one of the largest in the world, for four years after replacing Scott Butera, who exited to oversee the Arena Football League in 2014.

Prior to his leadership role at Foxwoods, Rapport served as a Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Casino. Before Foxwoods, he held senior positions at a number of Las Vegas casino properties, including President/COO at MGM Resorts International, President/COO at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, and President/COO at the New York Hotel & Casino.
