BOSTON (CelebrityAccess) — Grammy-award winner Patty Griffin, Joan Baez, Josh Ritter, Dar Williams, and special guests Peter Wolf, Rose Cousins and Sol Y Canto with Alisa Amador were on hand on Thursday night as the legendary Boston folk club Passim celebrated its 60th anniversary.
The event, held in front of a sold-out crowd at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre saw songwriter, activist and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Joan Baez present Passim’s folk music promoter and club manager Betsy Siggins.
Originally known as Club 47, Passim became a key stop on New England’s folk music circuit, providing an important performance stage for artists such as Baez, Jim Kweskin, and Bob Dylan.
As a founding member of Club 47, Betsy Siggins helped to launch the folk revival. She returned to the venue, now known as Club Passim in 1997 as executive director, a post she held for 12 years. During her tenure, she created and oversaw programs such as Culture for Kids, an after-school program for underserved Cambridge students, the Passim School of Music, and Passim Archives.
Today, she serves as the founder of Folk New England housed at the University of Massachusetts- Amherst.
Proceeds from the night support Passim, a nonprofit music organization dedicated to providing exceptional and interactive live musical experiences for both performers and audiences. The 60th-anniversary show was made possible by support from the Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame, an initiative of the Boch Center.
