The Seinfeld Show Headed To Netflix In A Deal Reported To Be Worth More Than Half A Billion Dollars

(CelebrityAccess) — Video-on-demand streaming service Netflix announced it has forged a deal for the digital rights to the hit ’90s sitcom “Seinfeld.”

“Jerry & Elaine & George & Kramer & Netflix,” Netflix said announcing the deal on social media. “All 180 episodes of the Emmy-Award winning Seinfeld are coming to Netflix — worldwide! — starting in 2021.”

While the terms of the deal for Seinfeld were not disclosed, the Los Angeles Times reported that people familiar with the deal said the streamer paid “far more” than the $500 million NBCUniversal paid for “The Office,” and the $425 million WarnerMedia shelled out for “Friends.”

Both “The Office” and “Friends” were popular shows on Netflix but left the service earlier this year.

Seinfeld is currently streamed on the Netflix rival Hulu, which secured rights to stream the show in North America through 2021 for about $130m, the Times reported.

“Seinfeld is the television comedy that all television comedy is measured against,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in a statement. “It is as fresh and funny as ever and will be available to the world in 4K for the first time.”
