Sir Cliff Richard Wins Privacy Case Against BBC

LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – British singer, Sir Cliff Richard, has won a major privacy case against the BBC following the media network’s coverage of a police raid on his Sunningdale, Berkshire, home back in 2014.

The raid was part of an investigation into historical child sex allegations, however, the now 77-year-old Richard was never arrested or charged.

In a final ruling, which came down earlier today (July 18), High Court judge Mr. Justice Mann declared that the BBC had infringed upon Richard’s privacy rights in both a “serious” and “sensationalist” way, awarding him £190,000 damages and an additional £20,000 in aggravated damages after the BBC submitted its coverage of the raid for an award.

South Yorkshire Police also earlier agreed to pay Richard £400,000 after settling a claim he brought against the force.

The BBC is currently considering an appeal.
