Prince Memorabilia Sells For Well Above Estimated Prices At Auction

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Julien’s Auctions sold off a collection of Prince memorabilia in New York Friday and the sales climbed well above the estimated pricing.

A doll, featured as a prop in Purple Rain, sold for $12,500, well above the estimated range of $2,000 to $4,000, according to Rolling Stone. The auction took place at NYC”s Hard Rock Cafe with a small group of in-house bidders plus online proxy bidders with “a few Times Square tourists” munching on mozzarella sticks in the back of the room, “taking it all in,” the magazine said.

A stage-worn jumpsuit, expected to go for between $6,000 and $8,000, eventually went for $27,500. A dark-purple tunic prince work in 1996, estimated to sell within the same range, went for $25,000. A white Schecter “cloud” guitar went for $30,000.

The most noteworthy item, Prince’s custom-made yellow “cloud” guitar, was expected to sell between $60,000 and $80,000 and went for $225,000. Prince’s wardrobe from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, estimated to sell for around $30,000, sold for more than $108,000, according to Rolling Stone.

There were 158 items overall, with a few items withdrawn at the last minute. A raspberry beret sold for $1,750, and an outfit worn in the movie “Under the Cherry Moon” sold for $40,000.”
